Your friend system is not going to be worth a lot of money one day because of its poor condition. If you look More on E-Bay, you can always find people selling brand new NES systems in the box! Brand new ones are worth decent money, but a used one that is not even close to new condition (as you say), is worth less than $ 50. He would do well to sell it to you, because it will never be more than 50 dollars for this thing.
